1940s Wartime Weekend Programme –
NEW FOR 2015 - HUEY 509 AND LOACH 011
These Vietnam Veteran helicopters have an amazing history; both having been expertly restored to their original livery and markings, displaying battle scars from their time serving with the US Military. ‘Huey509’ bears a memorial plaque to those members of the 129th Assault Helicopter Company who served in ‘Huey509’ and sadly lost their lives. The crew responsible for keeping these helicopters flying today have strong connections and friendships with the Veterans of the 129th AHC. The Iconic Huey really has to be seen to be believed and as a display team ‘Huey509’ and ‘Loach011’ provide an amazing insight into the history of these helicopter types. Huey (UH-1H) and Loach (OH-6A) type helicopters played vital roles during the Vietnam War. The Huey Helicopter was primarily involved with medical air evacuations, transportation and collection of troops to whom the sound of the Huey blades thumping the sky was instantly recognisable. The Loach helicopter was designed for use as a military scout during the Vietnam War to meet the US Army’s need for an extremely manoeuvrable light observation helicopter.
